Our History

It was the American Dream come true for Al and Rose DiMatteo. In 1951, Al and Rose started Rosal (Rose – Al) Homes, taking Al’s years of experience in the home building business and applying it to his home building philosophy.

Al was a hard working family man with the ability to relate to families and their needs.  “Build a home; Build it strong, and build it to last” said Al.  Al knew that the little extras and attention to detail are key to making one home superior to another.  Al would later tell his sons when they were learning the business; “It’s the little things in home building that the customer wants but doesn’t know to ask for.  After all, it’s YOU their putting their trust in to be the expert; and that’s a responsibility not to be taken lightly.  Remember, EVERY home is a Custom home; no two families are alike, and no two homes should be either.”

Word got around Western New York and the phone never stopped ringing!  The next thing Al and Rose knew, Rosal became one of the fastest growing home builders in the area.  Al’s only advertising was a sign that he would put up on the front lawn that said; “SOLD – but we have more!”  As Rosal continued to grow, Al made it policy to physically be involved with EVERY home being built by his company; always holding everyone to the highest standards.  This same policy continues still today with our current staff.  Presently semi-retired (but don’t tell him that), you can still find Al inspecting all the homes just about every morning! 

In 1984, Al’s son Gary was ready to take over the day to day operations and was named President of Rosal.  Gary often says of growing up in the family business; “a good day was on Dad’s lap driving the dozer; a bad day was when he gave me a shovel”.  Al demanded more from Gary than anyone else; and it taught him well.  Enough so that after more than 50 years, Rosal continues to work with families in personally customizing a home that fits their specific needs and desires.

“The thought of cutting corners is NOT and NEVER will be an option!” says Gary.  “That was Dad’s attitude then, and that’s the attitude he’s passed onto me and the entire Rosal organization.”
